The Legal and Compliance Officer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the institution adheres to legal standards and internal policies.
About the Role
This position supports the institution in navigating complex legal frameworks while promoting a culture of compliance and ethical conduct. This role entails developing compliance programs, monitoring regulatory changes, and providing legal guidance to mitigate risks and uphold ethical practices across the institution.
Responsibilities Summary
- Creating, implementing and maintaining compliance programs and policies to ensure adherence to laws and regulations and monitoring legislative changes and assessing how they affect the institution’s operations.
- Providing legal advice and assistance to different departments regarding contracts, policies and regulatory requirements
- Examining and developing legal documents such as agreements, contracts and corporate policies.
- Determining possible legal risks and creating strategies to mitigate them and conducting regular compliance audits and assessments to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
- Developing and delivering training programs for CEIRD employees on compliance and ethical behaviour and fostering a culture of compliance and ethics within the institution.
- Generating compliance reports for CEIRD management and regulatory bodies as well as maintaining accurate records of compliance activities and legal documents.
- Working closely with other departments, including HR, Finance and others to ensure adherence to internal policies and communicating with external legal counsel as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a reputable institution or equivalent
- Registered Legal Practitioner
- At least 3 years of working experience in legal compliance, labour law, litigation, arbitration, risk management and contract management.
- Relevant membership such as Member of the Law Society of Zimbabwe
- Strong problem-solving, analytical and communication skills
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
